Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is a highly absorbent hydrocolloid-polymer polysaccharide material that forms a gel when hydrated. This ability of CMC to absorb multiple times its weight in water makes it an ideal substance for creating lasting, moisture-rich environments.

CMS Technology

Providing options

CMC technology has been integrated into ArthroCare's epistaxis devices and surgical dressing by carefully controlling solubility.

  • CMC Woven Fabric- Reinforcing CMC with nylon holds the fabric together and forms a main component of the ArthroCare epistaxis and removable nasal dressing products.
  • CMC Dissolvable Fibers- Creating fibers of CMC allows the hydrated form to break down and be carried out through normal patient outflow. This technology is incorporated into Sinus Foam dissolvable dressings.
