Coblation Tonsillectomy

Clinical Information

Coblation® Tonsillectomy can greatly improve your patients' postoperative experience. The device used in this procedure is the EVac® 70, EVac Xtra, EVac T&A, or the PROcise™ EZ Plasma Wand. The procedure is performed in a dry field and the Wand(s) can be used to either remove the tonsils via dissection for a tonsillectomy or to perform an intracapsular tonsillectomy.

Studies published in peer-reviewed journals have shown
Coblation Tonsillectomy to have the following patient benefits
in comparison to conventional electrocautery tonsillectomy:

  • Significantly less pain and less frequent use of narcotics¹
  • Significantly faster return to normal diet (2.4 days vs. 7.6 days on average)¹
  • Less incidence of postoperative nausea and throat swelling²
  • Less depth of thermal adjacent tissue necrosis³
  • Faster healing of tonsillar fossae³
  • Less postoperative dehydration5
