Laryngeal and Head & Neck Surgery

Coblation Treatment of Laryngeal Lesions

Coblation® is being studied for the treatment of laryngeal lesions such as recurrent respiratory papilloma (RRP) Currently, there is no known cure for RRP; however, surgery is a widely recognized method for managing the disease and may be necessary for preventing airway blockage and improving voice quality. A variety of surgical procedures have been used for the removal of RRP lesions, including Coblation treatment. Coblation offers a number of advantages for the treatment of RRP, including limited damage to underlying tissues and a bloodless field.1

Recent studies in peer-reviewed journals indicate that Coblation treatment of RRP offers:

  • Adequate access using a conventional laryngoscope1
  • Ablation of papillomata without physical trauma to underlying tissues1
  • Improvement of voice quality with limited or no trama1
  • Extended median time between treatments2

The PROcise™ LW Wand offers the performance required for the minimally invasive removal of laryngeal lesions, including non-vocal fold site lesions, false vocal folds, epiglottis, and arytenoids.
